When it comes to 4a hair care you are always going to find it a little more complicated than other hair types, due to its fragile nature. The texture of 4a hair has less cuticle layers, which means that it has less natural protection, so you need to do everything you can to take care of it. Here are a few tips on keeping you curls looking natural and healthy and getting your routine right.
1. Cleanse and condition
4a hair tends to be a very dry hair type, so be sure to be gentle with it every step of the way. When it comes to cleaning your hair, be sure to avoid shampoos that contain sulphates and consider reducing the number of times you shampoo it to just once or twice a week. Once cleansed, the next step is to condition your hair. The best products are products such as coconut milk infused conditioners.
2. Moisturize and seal
Moisturizing your hair will help to keep your hair in the best condition possible. Using Aloe Vera and water will help to add moisture and to prevent breakages. Once your hair has been thoroughly moisturized be sure to seal it with coconut oil or other oil-based hair products such as jojoba oil or shea butter to lock in the moisture.
3. Deep treat
Once a month make sure you deep treat your hair. Deep treating your curls will help to strengthen and repair them. Curly 4a hair will benefit from extended exposure to certain products such as an avocado moisture mask or a henna treatment to help strengthen your hair. Make sure that when deep treating your curls, your hair is fully clean first. That way your hair will have the best chance of taking in all the nutrients it needs.
4. Cover at night
Keeping your hair covered with a silk scarf, or sleeping on a silk pillowcase is the best way to prevent it from becoming frizzy and breaking. Unlike cotton products that are likely to pull on your hair and make your curls turn to frizz, silk or satin products will simply allow your hair to flow across it.
When you discover that you have 4a hair, it is understandable that you will want to start to gather all the tips and information to create the perfect care routine, ensuring that you take the best care of those beautiful natural curls as you possibly can. There is so much information around these days, that it can be quite confusing to know where to start with keeping your curls in tip top condition; but hopefully now you have a few ideas on getting your 4a hair care routine right.
